Brig. Gen. Michael R. Drowley is the Commander of the 57th Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. He is responsible for 36 squadrons at 12 installations constituting the Air Force's most diverse flying wing. He is a lifelong student of leadership and an excellent practitioner.  Today, "JB" discusses leading in the age of social media, not taking himself too seriously, and his views on the "character of leadership".  We also discuss leadership toxicity and how he protects his teams, and his leadership legacy, from toxicity.  Brigadier General Drowley is an avid reader; he shares his reading list with us (to include a book by Simon Sinek in which he plays a leading "role").   https://www.nellis.af.mil/About/Biographies/Display/Article/2307981/brigadier-general-michael-r-drowley/ https://simonsinek.com/product/leaders-eat-last/

This was a lot of fun; absolute style points for having jet noise in the background!!! As a retired BG, and FWIC grad and instructor; it was awesome to empathize with some of JB's points.... well done! Also, as a guy who has been coaching business leadership for the past 12 years as a member of Afterburner ... one of the most important things discussed was the importance of "leaders intent" .. making sure the team understands why the leader is taking the action; as well as the "read back" after meetings etc to ensure proper and accurate direction is conveyed.

nice job!

Outstanding! Great interview and it's always good to hear leaders who get empathy, humility and vulnerability. Thanks for leading in this arena.

Mr. Rhone taught a lot...that I will be adding to my playbook. I wish Mr. Rhone had more time to cover more material...great info for developing as a true leader.

The Leadership As A Domain briefing was the most valuable presentation of the week. I took two pages of notes to look back on and use in my leadership tool box and to share with my unit.

VERY entertaining and enthusiastic. Newer supervisors would benefit from this development. Mr. Rhone made it personal and interactive.

Personally, our interactions have not only benefited my own professional growth, but more broadly brought into focus my hobby/passion of observing and noting specific leadership styles, their benefits, and their impacts on people.  You have become the epitome of an “inspirational leader."

You changed my outlook on the Air Force.  I wouldn’t have stayed in if it weren’t for you.

You should know that I would have never taken the risk if it weren’t for your coaching and encouragement. It would have felt way too big to tackle a few years ago.

Thank you so much for coming out. I really enjoyed your training; the way you kept us engaged, were able to relate with us (being military), and making it fun. Most “motivational” or “leadership” trainings I have attended were either not invigorating, grabbed my attention, or just had no relation to how we run business in the military. I can tell that you are very passionate in what you do and excited in telling all your stories to put everything into perspective within your presentation.
